cigarettes in the summertime, bonfires & roaring minds your porch & your mothers chimes: the life that i've left behind i think now, all the time, of what my life would look like if i had said 'yes' that night but i did what i thought was right i know where the sidewalks & beginnings end i've seen the truth bloom, & then bend i've watched the sunrise burn, & then mend i know where the sidewalks & beginnings end treehouses & dinosaur graphs your rolling eyes & your laugh & all the things we would have had they recur in dreams that fade too fast i know where the sidewalks & beginnings end i've seen the truth bloom, & then bend i've watched the sunrise burn, & then mend i know where the sidewalks & beginnings end breathing steam, we breathe in deep a dance of moondreams & falling leaves breathing steam, we breathe in deep & i don't know how i could let you go i think now, all the time, of what my life would look like if i had said 'yes' that night but i did what i thought was right i know where the sidewalks & beginnings end i've seen the truth bloom, & then bend i've watched the sunrise burn, & then mend i know where the sidewalks & beginnings end breathing steam, we breathe in deep a dance of moondreams & falling leaves breathing steam, we breathe in deep & i don't know why i let you go

our moon 02:48
our life at night is colored in by starlight, moonshine, the palette of the sky so i'll oblige your wish for a rocketship so heaviness will lift & we will find our truth, on our moon i know we'll be there soon in dreams that we see while we talk in our sleep as we wander & wonder aloud we're alone in our headspace now watching the world spin around like a film reel coming unwound & all your desires are mine & everything i am you'll find was meant to be made for you 'cause you're my living proof that the dreams we dream improve when we meet & cheat the truth conspiring to always live in a dreamworld just like this painting the sky in our minds it's a constellation in our eyes so when we look up we'll find a map to our moon, our life so i'll oblige & you'll be my princess bride & we'll fight bad guys side by side for all time
3.
out here on our porch we light ourselves a torch & as the smoke gets in our eyes we smile & we cry but it's a happy cry, it's a happy cry it's a happy cry & the ocean's in your eyes in your eyes, in your eyes in your eyes there's an ocean in your eyes her open ocean eyes illuminate the night & pull me like the tide with celestial light my satellite my satellite my satellite she pulls me like the tide with her eyes with her eyes with her eyes she pulls me like the tide with her open ocean eyes

blind 03:35
& i know that the truth ain't a loan but i'll give you back all i owe i've built some wings so i can fly to you i'll be there soon, this time it's true i'm close to the sun (look up) & i'll go blind with you on my mind somewhere deep inside of me a memory unlocks a mystery the less i do, the more it proves feels backwards, but you swear it's true i'm close to the sun (look up) & i'll go blind with you on my mind i'm hearing voices, god, the past is so noisy gimme back my choices & i swear that i'll avoid this present i'm gifted with, a path to another dead end low as i've ever been, got no one to share with can't find my future route i fear it's been washed out just me & the voices now, it's just me & the voices & i'll go blind, with you on my mind & i know that the truth ain't a loan yeah i know because i'm broke & alone

lilac & cherry wine, a candle & a cup sunshine in the afternoon, daydreaming of us your raspberry cheesecake hair oh, you were delicious so we're driving ninety now south down eighty one pick any exit now, & we'll just drive around as you're getting high in the backseat smoke fills my eyes & i can't see your laugh, that sacred sound oh, it just breaks me down you break me down so tell me your favorite line by oscar wilde so me your teeth, say cheese that lovely funny smile oh, we should never sleep she says, the summer stretches for miles 'the truth is rarely pure, & never simple' but under the sheets we'd see the wonders of the deep & it all made sense back then because we were innocent & now everything else that's been is just a measurement of how deep you can dive, & still survive how deep can you deep, & still survive? & with baited breaths we explore our depth & see a dream of centuries buried beneath that summer that we spent sharing whiskey & cigarettes following the night as it led us to our moon where the jukebox is full of cherry bombs & you stole my heart is on the floor singing the encore in this dream of centuries time's past enough for me to kiss you on the cheek & say i'm sorry for everything i did i was an idiot but you put your hand on my lips & you say it's okay in this dream of centuries time lasts as long as we need so let go the past & we'll be the king & queen forever & after here take my hand now dear let's find those better years where love is enough in this dream of centuries time lasts as long as we need so we can make new memories while we're asleep lilac & cherry wine, a candle & a cup daydreaming of us

blackbird 02:23
as i'm skipping stones all alone a blackbird with purple wings sings of rippled things & i hear her voice just like white noise she's whispering in the wind the blackbird with purple wings sings of rippled things

sight unseen 03:57
as the time passed & the wine didn't last we got drunk on promises (promises, promises) now our eyelids too heavy to lift fall & we drift together to dreams you live behind my eyelids you're the light in my iris you're a distant wave dancing in place & i wish i could pull you to the sand you're a shooting star you're a heart shaped scar my memories thunder i wish & wonder you live behind my eyelids you're the light in my iris the night is still now my mind is spilling how the falling stars & leaves are dead things that carry our dreams

you looked at me, then at your shoes while i saw my shoes, then i saw you & this far on i still remember, this far back awkwardly we fell but we caught each other certain that from here on out there'd be no other than each other in our lives & yeah you know i know you know that falling takes some getting up so let's get on & on & up & up because we're falling, yeah we're falling, oh, we were falling in love & this far on i still remember, this far back & i saw everything that i wanted once, but i closed my eyes, once now it's wintertime, in my head & you are smiling at me, in my head & we're sharing a blanket, watching 'toy story 2' holding hands, i'm holding you your brown eyes bouncing, & your curls, too we laugh in wonder, hearts like thunder this is all i want & it always will be how could i be too blind to see it now this dream will end, & this song will, too so let me say this quick, just for you: we were everything that i wanted & more than once i've wondered what might have been for me & you & i'm sorry that i turned away from our truth i'm sorry i turned from you cuz i saw everything that i wanted once, but i closed my eyes, once you're the wind coming in on a cloudless summer day you're the rhythm of the rain, gently falling, while i dream you're a champagne sunset filling the sky & life with wonder & light you're a slow dance in the afternoon, with our first 'i love yous' coming soon the fact that you aren't fiction is enough to make me believe in anything, all over again like maybe somehow this doesn't have to end & i can say that i wanna stay back on the day that i went away but i left & now all that's left is how i still feel for you... cuz i saw everything that i wanted once, but i closed my eyes, once now i see everything i wanted, all at once, & my eyes are opened up

she's curled up in her arms, & in her blues with her burdened back facing you there's nothing left to say, & nothing to do as the dawns breaks, you know, so will you now i keep my eyes open, & i keep my mouth shut as i wish on the shooting stars that she used to love the ones that i could never see the ones we laid beneath, under the empty trees & she said, please, remember me in this moondream & in these fallen leaves & she said, please, remember me in this moondream & in these fallen leaves in her corduroy pants, & with both hands around her lilac mug of bengal tea she sings a bookstore rhapsody & our shadows dance along, with the steam & she said, please, remember me i'll stay here in our melody & she said, please, remember me & i'll sing with you, in your dreams & she said, please, remember me in this moondream & in these fallen leaves oh this moondream & these falling leaves

that autumn 03:36
we found each other as the air turned crisp but the falling leaves were of significance oh, that autumn, we'd feel it all we laughed in wonder, wandered on & on singing songs from the book of love oh, the mystery of how we got lost now hear in the hush of what once was there's a deafening brilliance: the potential 'us' & all we could be still lingers above the bourbon burns, & my stomach turns & yet my heart, it still endures but for the memory of her the crash hit hard, & those vibrations they still wake me, take my breath away as the past conspires to always shake me she appears beside me, here in my dream & she whispers sweetly, 'we can always meet, if you only, truly, believe... so come with me now, let's walk to the sea' as we breathe the ocean air in deep an autumn breeze breaks this summer heat & suddenly, a wave of peace we exhale & we are free there's peace in knowing that her life still glows just like the moonbeams we laid beneath oh, that autumn, when we were in love oh, that autumn, when we were us
