under your breath
04:31
|
|||
you’re sleeping & sinking in the bed sheets:
you’re underwater,
every time you close your eyes
you’re sinking under the water
you’re lying underneath the covers
& you’re lying under your breath
that this isn’t real,
it’s just a dream
holding your mouth open in open waters
you’re lying underneath the covers,
& you’re lying under your breath
that this isn’t real,
it’s just a dream

head in the clouds
03:07
|
|||
your head's up in the clouds,
but you're waking up on the ground
you don't know now who or where you were before
you've worked real hard to remember your past,
but you don't remember where you last left off
your head's up in the clouds,
but you're waking up on the ground
you wish you knew now what it was that you were looking for
your life's a series of events that are becoming
less & less current
hurry up before you get caught under the current
bop bop, boppity ba
twenty seven years of digging, walking, waiting, watching
how many steps does it take to find out where you started?
i guess twenty seven more years will go just as fast
you don't know now who or where you were before
& is it a past life that you've been cycling towards
if your heads up in the clouds, well, then what the hell
is your body doin' down on the ground?
bop bop, boppity ba

sideways conversations
05:43
|
|||
in the cold morning air, our breath is dancing on the dew
& the words we were exchanging, they were all true
although they seemed like fairy tales, they were all we knew
in the morning on the front lawn,
in the morning on your front lawn
the streetlights are all burned out,
& the pavement is unpredictable the cracks that are suppose to break your mothers back
instead bend your ankle
& as i carry you the rest of the way home, you joke & say,
that i am in shining armor, & i say that you are shining in my arms
to guide us home
home, we're going home
because the world spins, & it spits us out,
& you don't want to float alone
yeah, the world spins, & it spits us out,
& i don't want to float alone
& underneath the covers, we are holding sideways conversations
we're thinking about everything out,
& what we don't know, we'll find out,
or we'll just wonder about it together
together, we are together
because the world spins, & it spits us out,
& we don't want to float alone
well, when the world spins, & spits us out,
we will be floating together

i'll fin a way to make a map out of our life
so that happiness will be easier to find
the veins on my forearms,
they liken to rivers on a map
& so i get out my marker, & i begin to mark
& i hope that i can find my way back
we went so many places,
& we did so many things,
but the feelings we had are the only things that i can't locate
so i found a way to make a map out of our life
when i found they veins on my forearms were like rivers on a map
& i got out my marker, but as i marked
i found that i couldn't find the feelings,
& i couldn't find you:
i couldn't find what matters most,
& it doesn't matter anymore
that we went so many places,
& we did so many things
because the feelings we had are the only things
that i can't locate

here come the in-between,
all the in-between
dizzy in disbelief,
dancing with in-betweens
here come the in-between,
all the in-between
feelings,
& day dreams
a lily & a stream
another in-between
a summer reverie
another in-between
dizzy in disbelief,
dancing with in-betweens
here come the in-between,
all the in-between
feelings,
& daydreams
there go the in-betweens
they drift into memories

don't forget
03:15
|
|||
& don't forget what a grain of sand is,
when it's left alone
don't forget what a shooting star is,
when it falls unknown
don't forget
a lily & a stream;
a summer reverie
& all this time that i've spent in my head
counting miles before they're tread
i'm losing sleep,
& i'm losing me,
i'm losing meaning

the flowers all bleed pesticide,
& i'm not sure that i care to know why
the flowers all bleed pesticide
(goodness knows)
the flowers all bleed pesticide
(what we don't)
& it's making it so hard not to cry
(blindness shows)
the flowers all bleed pesticide
(what we won't)
when the world ends
who's going to blame this?
who's going to feel this?
who's going to hear this?
who's going to feel this?
& when the world ends,
will it end forever?
(goodness know what we don't)
the flowers all bleed pesticide
(blindness shows)
the flowers all bleed pesticide
(what we won't)
& i am dying to find out why
(goodness knows)
the flowers all bleed pesticide
(what we don't)

over our heads & under the sky,
live the in between feelings
where angels collide.

the time it takes

the time it takes to let go,
is the time it takes to grow old.

all the in between
feelings & daydreams
(a lily & a stream;
a summer reverie)

i'm afraid of being too tired;
i want to listen to what the ocean has to say
come under the sky,
& watch the stars form a treble clef
come, & wonder why
i'm afraid of being too tired
the ocean is talking, & it's spilling its guts
but is enough ever really enough?
i'm afraid of being too tired
stand underneath the trees
stand underneath here, in disbelief, dear
i'm afraid that i've grown too tired
|
||||
14. |
||||
over our heads & under the sky,
the in between feelings where angels collide
some people look up & some people look down,
but no matter what, we're all here on the ground
underneath the streetlights, & in between the puddles,
there we are, walking in a huddle,
& there is nothing to say,
because sometimes it's just perfect that way
& when i forget you not, i remember the thoughts
that i never thought to say aloud,
but she'll never hear me now
as the dawn breaks & fixes you,
my heart breaks, watching you
the rain came down & it washed away
the message that she wrote in chalk yesterday:
& it was asking for the past back,
but the endings are never ending
